http://www.microsoft.com/education/en-us/teachers/guides/Pages/digital_storytelling.aspx . You have probably already used PhotoStory3 and/or Windows Movie Maker or something similar to do this.
Don't forget PhotoStory3 is a free download.
I am using the term to cover a wider range of storytelling applications and have choosen a few of my favourite ones here.
Digital Story-telling sites which inspire children to write
First for the youngest children
Picture Book Maker
http://www.artisancam.org.uk/flashapps/picturebookmaker/index.php?from=activity_zone
For each page choose a background, an animal and one or more objects. The objects can be scaled. The animals can be scaled and you can also choose how they are positioned using the "Action" slider and then write a line. Don't forget the front cover and the back. Once you have finished it can be published and found in the gallery.
If there are problems with the saving as there sometimes is with a number of these I would train the children or those helping them to take screen shots! Although you also need to be patient as loading can take a few moments.

This works in much the same way except now you have speech bubbles as well
and can
and the layout is more comic-like.

When you open this you will be given a set of instructions to show you how to write your story.
At the end if you choose to publish your story you will get a number which you need to rember if you want to look for it again. The book will be saved as a printable pdf.
